Victims of Child Abuse Served by the DSWD
FS#5 Series of 2001

Total number of victims of child abuse served by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) decreased to 10,749 in 2000, depicting a contraction of 9.2 percent from the 11,845 total victims served in 1999.

Of these, 5,047 were sexually-abused children, representing 47.0 percent of the total victims of child abuse provided with social services. Under this type of abuse, 54.9 percent of the children were victims of rape, while 31.7 percent were victims of incest. Victims of acts of lasciviousness accounted for 13.4 percent of the sexually-abused children.

Sexually-exploited children represented 2.1 percent of the total victims of child abuse reported to the DSWD. Under this type of abuse, 78.4 percent were victims of prostitution, 17.6 percent were victims of pedophilia, while 4.0 percent were victims of pornography.

Meanwhile, there were 42 victims of child trafficking in 2000 as against the 85 victims reported in 1999. Victims of child trafficking represented 1.0 percent of the total child abuse victims in 2000.
