W E L C O M EIn order to promote comparability of statistical classifications across ASEAN member-countries, the process of harmonization has started with a review of statistical classifications in the ASEAN region taking into consideration their commonalities and differences. The Philippines through the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) will host the 2nd ASEAN Technical Group Meeting on Statistical Classifications on October 4-6, 2004 at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel in Mandaluyong City . The objective of the Meeting is to promote comparability of statistics in the ASEAN region through the formulation of an appropriate and comprehensive scheme for statistical classifications for the ASEAN countries in view of the differences in the implementation of the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC). While this second meeting focuses on the harmonization of statistical classifications, it will also address issues in support of the ASEAN process. Specifically, the meeting will come up with ASEAN recommendations in the revision of the United Nations International Standard Industry Classifications (ISIC) in 2007. The hosting of the second meeting in the country will give the Philippines an opportunity to share with its ASEAN neighbors its initiatives in the development of classification systems. The Philippines through the NSCB is currently the Chair of the ASEAN Technical Group on Statistical Classifications. The Philippine Statistical System (PSS) welcomes all the participants to our country and hopes that meaningful recommendations will be formulated in the meeting. |
