Objectives
The
Asia - Pacific Ministerial Summit on TSA aims to promote and enhance
awareness on the TSA, identify the challenges faced by countries in the
region, and develop strategies and action plan for the efficient and
cost effective formulation and implementation of TSA.
The
Second Sub-Regional Workshop seeks to discuss the need to come up with
comparable tourism statistics as well as detailed and technical
requirements for compiling data/ inputs for the TSA.
More importantly, the workshop aims to develop capacity of
concerned agencies and improve existing statistical systems to
facilitate the achievement of strategies and action plan defined by the
ministers. Specifically,
the Workshop aims to improve the statistical capacity in the field of
tourism statistics to carry out the following initiatives:

promote the development of the system of tourism statistics as a
necessary condition to make progress in the measurement and analysis of
the socio-economic impact of tourism; and
·
Embark on the tasks contemplated in the different stages
recommended by the WTO for the development of TSA.
Specifically,
the Summit and Workshop aims to facilitate and enhance the process of
learning from and sharing with other countries the concepts and
processes of
(a) establishing and improving TSA and (b) developing and
compiling a TSA.
Moreover,
the forum seeks to provide the venue to build awareness among the
participants on the TSA in the region as well as to establish linkages
and networks among agencies to strengthen their efforts in establishing
the TSA.
