Official maternal mortality ratio estimates for 1990 and 2000-2010 now available
(WA-201011-SS1-03, Posted 08 December 2010)

The National Statistical Coordination Board Executive Board (NSCB) approved for adoption the interim estimation methodology on maternal mortality ratios (MMR), including the resulting national-level estimates for 1990 and 2000-2010, through NSCB Board Resolution No. 11-10

The methodology and estimates are the results of the efforts of the Technical Working Group on Mortality Statistics headed by Dr. Josefina Cabigon to address the need for updated MMR, particularly for monitoring the country’s progress on the attainment of the Millennium Development Goal 5.  The said methodology was reviewed by the Technical Committee on Population and Housing Statistics chaired by Dr. Mercedes Concepcion and endorsed for approval of the NSCB Board.

The interim estimates are recommended for policy/decision-making purposes until such time that the results of population censuses and surveys and updated data from the civil registration system are made available.
