(WA-201008-SS2-02, Posted 12 August 2010)
The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) in collaboration with UNICEF announces the release of the Millennium Development Goals Watch (MDGWatch) Poster in the Philippine Millenium Development Goals (MDG) website incorporating the 7 of the 18 new MDG indicators added by the United Nations (UN) last 15 January 2008.
The MDGWatch poster presents the progress of the Philippines at the national and regional levels, on each of the 44 MDG indicators available at the Philippine Statistical System (PSS). It provides the probability of attaining the targets based on the current rate of performance for each indicator vis-à-vis the required rate to attain the target by 2015 and the time-distance measures, which looks into the time dimension deviation between the actual implementation and the implied path to target in 2015 for a given target. The time-distance measure reflects status whether the implementation is ahead or behind the target. Aside from presenting the national progress for each indicator, the status of the MDGs in the regions is also highlighted in the poster.
Among the 44 MDG indicators, 14 were categorized as having high probability of achieving the target, while 6 and 9 indicators were found to be of medium and low probability, respectively. The rest of the indicators for which there are no clear targets were not classified.
The MDGWatch poster and brochures will be disseminated during the launching of the 4th Philippine Progress Report on the MDGs scheduled on September 8, 2010. The poster can be downloaded at: http://www.nscb.gov.ph/mdg/MDG_poster.pdf [
