In support of this year’s celebration of Women’s Month with the theme “Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan!”, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) has issued a fact sheet focusing on the latest statistical updates on women and men in the Philippines. This year’s release includes new indicators on the following: a) happiness index and b) violence against women (VAW). The happiness index was generated from the results of a pilot study on happiness conducted by the NSCB while the VAW indicators were taken from the report of the 2008 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The fact sheet contains 65 indicators covering 14 socio-economic sectors and gender concerns. It also includes data from the latest statistical reports and publications, such as the October 2009 Labor Force Survey, 2008 Survey on Overseas Filipinos, 2008 NDHS, 2008 National Nutrition Survey, 2008 ASEAN Statistical Yearbook, among others. It hopes to provide relevant, and user-friendly information on gender issues that are deemed important to planners, researchers and other users for gender and development advocacy, planning, programming and policy setting.
