(WA-200903-SS2-01, Posted 20 March 2009)
In support of this year’s celebration of Women’s Month, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) has issued a Fact Sheet focusing on the latest statistical updates on women and men in the Philippines. This year’s release includes new tables on the following: 1) total number of business registrants by region, in line with this year’s theme, “Go Negosyo: Babae, Yaman ka ng Bayan;” 2) average family income, expenditures, and savings of women- and men-headed households; 3) early childhood mortality rates of Filipino children by type from 1995 to 2005; 4) Gender Development Index (GDI), Gender Equality Ratio (GER), and the component indices of the GDI (health, education, and income) for 2000 and 2003; and 5) two additional indicators (i.e., net enrolment ratio and ratio of girls to boys in secondary schools) for the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
With these additional indicators, the Fact Sheet now contains 73 indicators covering 15 socioeconomic sectors and gender concerns. It also includes updated data from the latest statistical reports and publications, such as the 2006 Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES), October 2008 round of the Labor Force Survey (LFS), 2007 Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF), 2006 ASEAN Statistical Yearbook, 2006 Family Planning Survey (FPS), results of the NSCB-UNDP Project on the Development of a Methodology and Estimation of GDI at the Local Level for 2000 and 2003, and the 2008 consolidated report of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), among others. It hopes to provide relevant and user-friendly information on gender concerns that are deemed important to planners, researchers and other users for gender and development advocacy, planning, programming, and policy setting.
