NSCB Releases technical paper on the measurement of the impact
of climate change in the Philippines

The paper entitled “Gearing a National Statistical System Towards the Measurement of the Impact of Climate Change: The Case of the Philippines” was prepared for the International Conference on Climate change held on 14-16 April 2008 at Oslo, Norway, specifically, under the session that discusses the role of official statistics in the measurement of impacts of climate change. It presents the mechanisms and structures that will be conducive to the involvement of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) in the measurement of the impacts of climate change, with particular attention to the social impacts. Written by Dr. Romulo A. Virola, Estrella V. Domingo, Glenita V. Amoranto and Edward P. Lopez-Dee, the paper also discusses the issues/concerns that have to be addressed in measuring/monitoring the impacts of climate change. Lastly, the paper presents clear-cut strategies that have to be planned and implemented in integrating climate change and related statistics in the PSS.
