Functions
  1. Review and assess current issues and problems on statistics of population and its characteristics and housing;
  2. Study present techniques and methodologies in the production, estimation and projection of population and housing statistics and recommend measures and techniques to obtain more reliable estimates;
  3. Recommend for adoption official estimates of population and housing projections and other demographic indicators such as infant mortality rate, crude death rate, etc.;
  4. Provide expert advise in the development of an efficient system of population and housing data production; and
  5. Review concepts and definitions on population and housing statistics.
Major Accomplishments in 2007
  1. Technical inputs to the proposed methodology for generating 2000 CPH-based city/municipal population projections   --- for further review
  2. Technical inputs to the methodology and estimates for generating 2000 CPH-based population projections by single age and by sex ---  for revision
  3.  Comments on the 2007 Population Census (PopCen) questionnaires submitted to the NSO
  4. Technical inputs to the methodology for generating quarterly population projections --- for refinement
  5. Draft concepts and definitions for statistical purposes for population (batch 2)  ---  to include other terms and the metadata
Outputs for 2008
  1. Recommended methodology for city/municipal population projections (for Board approval)
  2. Recommended methodology for generating 2000 CPH-based population projections by single age and by sex (limited to school age population 5-25 years old) (for Board approval)
  3. Recommended population projections methodology: link series (for Board approval)
  4. Suggested methodology for the quarterly population projections for the national accounts
  5. Recommended methodology and estimates for household projections (for Board approval)
  6. Suggested improvements in the methodology for generating mortality statistics
  7. Inputs/recommendations to the development of a Housing Information System that will provide the core housing statistics from all shelter agencies, relevant data from financing agencies and data from surveys and censuses
  8.  Recommended concepts and definitions for statistical purposes for population (batch 2) and housing  (batch 1)
  9. Recommendations on the implementation of programs/activities in the PSDP chapter on population and housing statistics
