Functions
  1. Serve as a forum to provide overall guidance particularly in resolving issues pertaining to the data sources, operational concepts/definition, current and emerging issues of the education sector;
  2. Provide advice in the development and maintenance of statistical standards and classification systems relative to education;
  3. Formulate measures that will improve the system of data collection and reporting of education statistics/indicators;
  4. Recommend institutional arrangements/linkages among concerned education agencies on the generation and exchange of data/indicators;
  5. Recommend and cause the publication of common sets of education indicators useful for policy formulation;
  6. Identify and recommend to the NSCB Executive Board policies on current and emerging issues, and concepts and methodologies used in the education sector and;
  7. Monitor the over-all development of education statistics in the country
Major Accomplishments in 2010
  1. Final recommendation on the inclusion of   police, military, and other schools in the coverage of the CHED information system
  2. Final recommendation on the proposed  designation of TESDA   and CHED indicators
  3. Creation of the TWG on Cultural   Statistics approved by the NSCB and the NCCA Executive Board  per recommendation of the IACES
  4. Initial comments on the 2009 UNESCO  Framework for Cultural Statistics as reference guide for the formulation of a similar framework for the Philippines
Target Outputs for 2011
  1. Draft framework, indicators, and official definitions of concepts and terms on culture
  2. Inputs for the 2011-2017 PSDP chapters on education and cultural statistics
  3. Recommendations on the proposed operational definition of functional literacy
  4. Recommended official concepts and terms (Batch 3) for the education sector for presentation to the Board
