Municipal Profile - Daet, Camarines Norte
Daet, Gateway to Bicolandia

Approximately 365 kilometers southwest of Metro Manila and eight hours drive by bus or forty-five minutes trip by plane, the municipality is located in the northern portion of Region V or Bicol Region.

It is bounded on the east by the municipality of Mercedes, on the south by the municipality of Basud, on the southwest by the municipality of San Lorenzo Ruiz, on the north by the Pacific Ocean, on the west by the municipality of San Vicente and on the northwest by the municipality of Talisay.

Topography

The town is the second smallest municipality in Camarines Norte in terms of land area. As per DENR-LMB certification dated September 19, 2008, its total land area is 4,600 hectares. (46 sq. kilometers), politically divided into 25 barangays.

In general, Daet is characterized by its plains or flatlands. It has no mountains and valleys. Its average elevation is about ten (10) meters above mean sea level.

Climate

Daet belongs to type II climate with no dry season and with a very pronounced maximum rain period that occurs from November to January.

Land Use

The total land area being used by the municipality is 5,861 hectares as this has the barangay disaggregation.

The existing land use is categorized into three: the agricultural areas, the wetlands and the miscellaneous land use. About 3,590.63 hectares or 61.26% of the total land area is under the agricultural land use category. These lands are planted to food crops such as palay, corn, vegetables, root crops and legumes. Other agricultural products planted include coconut, fruit trees and other fruits such as pineapple, papaya and banana. These areas could be found in the rural barangays.

The wetlands  has a total area of 96.2 hectares or 1.64% of the total land area. It is where milkfish, crabs and lobsters are being cultured. This area is fitted for mangrove rehabilitation to  serve as fish spawning area. This could be found in portions of barangays Awitan, Bagasbas, Gubat and Mambalite.

Miscellaneous land uses account for 2,174.17 hectares or 37.10% of the total land area. These are the built-up areas, beach sand and airstrips found mostly in the urban barangays and some areas of the rural barangays.
