There is still one unplanned
child in the life of a typically married Davaoeña

Posted 24 February 2010
The 2008 National Demographic and Health
Survey revealed that the total wanted fertility rate of women in Davao
Region Region were not achieved in 2008. Total wanted fertility is 2.3 while
actual or total fertility rate is 3.3. This same trend was observed in 1998
and 2003.
This is true despite the fact that Davao
Region, at 60.2 percent, has the highest contraceptive prevalence rate among
the regions in the country. With 60.2 percent contraceptive prevalence rate,
or met need, and unmet need of 14.8 percent the total demand for family
planning in Davao Region is 75.0 percent. This means some 14.8 percent of
the currently married women surveyed did not use any family planning method
despite their desire to do so for spacing or limiting their number of
children.
