Employment decreases to 94
percent

Data from the Labor Force Survey (LFS)
conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) revealed that employment
rate in Davao region posted at 94 percent in its October 2009 rounds survey,
a 1.7 percentage points drop compared to the 95.7 percent it posted in the
October 2008 rounds. Although it recorded a decreasing growth, Davao
region’s employment rate is 1.1 percentage points higher than the 92.9
percent recorded at the national level.

Consequently, unemployment rate in Region
XI increased from 4.3 percent in 2008 to 6 percent in 2009, both from the
October in each year rounds. On the other hand, underemployment or the
proportion of employed persons who wanted to have additional hours of work
in their present job or an additional job was estimated at 17.1 percent in
October 2009, an increase of 1 percentage point from the 16.1 percent it
registered in October 2008.
